What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small posts that can be crafted from a few different types of biocompatible materials, which means they can fuse with the jawbone, including titanium, ceramic, and zirconia. The implants are then surgically placed within the bone to restore the foundational root structure of the missing teeth, allowing them to act as a strong support system for any type of restoration to be attached to, including a free-standing crown, bridge, or denture.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  1. Initial Consultation: Every dental implant treatment starts with a consultation. During this visit, Dr. Abboushi will examine your mouth and any diagnostic images we take, which could include a cone beam CT image of your entire facial structure. This allows Dr. Abboushi to determine your candidacy for moving forward with dental implant surgery and address any risks or issues related to your medical or dental history.
  2. Dental Implant Surgery: Dr. Abboushi is able to assist in single-tooth dental implant cases and works alongside experts in dental implant surgery to make sure his patients achieve the best possible results, especially those with more complex tooth loss cases.
  3. Osseointegration & Abutment Attachment: Following dental implant surgery, osseointegration will occur, which is the process of the dental implants naturally fusing with the jawbone. This supports bone regeneration in the area by supplying it with blood flow and stimulation. After about three to six months, after osseointegration has occurred, our team will call you back to attach abutments to the implant posts, which are small metal connector pieces that will hold the restoration in place.
  4. Attaching the Final Restoration: The final step of your journey will be to attach the final restoration to your abutments and dental implants, completing your smile!
